Mini Cooper John Cooper Works

Production of John Cooper Works-tuned cars is set to resume at MINI's Plant Oxford with the launch of the second-generation MINI Cooper S Hatch and MINI Clubman. From July 2008, customers will be able to purchase factory-built vehicles that have a remarkable output of 211 hp, reaching 0-62 mph in just 6.5 seconds. The engineering and development of the models have been heavily influenced by motor sport, featuring upgrades such as a larger twin-scroll turbocharger and direct petrol injection with common rail, as well as re-engineered brakes, suspension and strengthened gearing, all allowing the car to produce 132 hp per litre and achieve 40 mpg. Expected prices on-the-road will be £20,500 for the MINI Cooper John Cooper Works and £21,700 for the MINI Clubman John Cooper Works, and they will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.

Engine

The MINI John Cooper Works cars have an engine specially developed for the MINI CHALLENGE race car, the 1.6 litre power plant from the standard MINI Cooper S, but with modifications to the air filter, air mass meter, exhaust system and catalyst. An increased supply of air to the modified larger turbocharger is provided through the fitment of a larger air intake pipe, creating a quicker induction phase.
