Mini Cooper S

Today, Monday 14 August 2006, details of the all-new MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S have been revealed. With an eye-catching new body design, high-tech modern interior and state-of-the-art powerful engines, the two new models will be available for purchase before the end of the year. The previous MINI, released in 2001, was highly successful, leaving room for the new MINI to both solidify and extend its role in the premium segment it created. It has sold over 800,000 copies all over the world and more than 200,000 in the UK alone. The exterior of the new MINI looks quite similar to its predecessor, while essentially all body panels are different. To maximize the novelty of the MINI, the design team opted for an evolutionary design, allowing the car to remain instantly recognizable five years after its launch. Taking a peek under its hood, the new MINI range has made some substantial changes. Four-cylinder 1.6-litre peters engines with plenty of innovative features power the new MINI, paired with improved suspension to ensure a comfortable ride to go along with the MINI's renowned 'go-kart' experience. The interior of the MINI is now a sparkling mix of MINI style, quality and comfort. More space is granted to passengers both in the front and back, with an extensive selection of colour schemes, interior features and other options to customize the car. The MINI Cooper produces 120hp and accelerates to 0-62mph at 9.1 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 126mph, while the MINI Cooper S variant produces 175hp to get a 0-62mph time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 140mph. Both models have had their fuel economy improved with a combined cycle of 48.7mpg for the MINI Cooper and 40.9mpg for the MINI Cooper S. Carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced, resulting in both models being moved across two VED car tax ratings. The MINI One model with its 1.4-liter engine producing 95 hp and a diesel alternative will be available in the beginning of 2007. All three models from the MINI range are produced in the UK's own 'MINI production triangle' comprising Plant Oxford, Plant Swindon and Hams Hall, with the planned production capacity rising sharply to 240,000 units by 2008. The MINI One, Cooper and Cooper S have respective on-the-road prices of £11,595, £12,995 and £15,995.
