Mini WRC
At the 2010 Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris (FR), visitors will be able to witness the world premiere of the MINI WRC - a rally car that will compete in the FIA World Rally Championship starting from 2011. Kris Meeke (GB) has been confirmed as one of the drivers for this new car.
Powered by a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder Di turbo-charged engine, the MINI WRC was put to the test at Prodrive's rally track and performed well. The development of the car started in 2009 and the concept of the MINI WRC will be showcased in Paris. The MINI Countryman production model served as the basis for the new rally car.
According to Ian Robertson, BMW AG's Board of Management responsible for Sales and Marketing, “The Paris Motor Show is the perfect stage, on which to launch our MINI WRC. The response to our announcement that MINI will return to the world of rallying next year was very positive.”
In 2011, MINI WRC will be part of six of the thirteen scheduled rounds. Starting in 2012, MINI will compete in every round of the championship. Furthermore, Prodrive is looking into the possibility of offering customer versions to independent teams for use in the championship.
