Sold both in Europe and Asia, the Mitsubishi Colt was designed by the Mitsubishi Design Europe team, managed by Akinori Nakanishi. One of the most successful East-Asian designs in the last two decades, the 1991 Colt / Mirage Mk IV, is a product of this team. The Mitsubishi Design Europe team went beyond simply creating the shape for the Colt. They also designed a unique interior (dashboard, seats, colors and trim) that fits European tastes and demands. Identity Mitsubishi Colt features the brand's visual identity created by Olivier Boulay, Head of Design for the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. The brand is represented by the iconic three diamond logo which was portrayed in early modern Mitsubishi models from the 1960s. This logo provides the inspiration for the triangular graphic layout, as well as the dihedron in between the grilles – creating a diamond effect. Boulay extended this design onto the front hood, adding a spine to create moving visuals in line with the sporty brand image. The front end, inspired by the 2001 CZ2 concept car, was the main design difference with the Asian-market Colt, adding the finishing touch to its clean and sporty design.
