MME and Pininfarina have worked hard to make their project a reality, and they're celebrating the commencement of production of the Mitsubishi Colt CZC. This unique vehicle is being assembled in Bairo, located near Turin, Italy, which was justified by the success of Colt in 2005 (72,305 units sold). The B-segment coupé-cabriolets market in Europe has also seen tremendous growth from 106,000 units in 2002 to 150,000 in 2005 - a 41.5% increase.
Mitsubishi Colt CZC is a collective effort from several European organizations. Most of the parts for the Colt CZC will be shipped to Italy, provided by MMC's NedCar plant in Born, Netherlands. These parts include body-in-white components, some sub-assemblies, small modifications of Colt 3-door parts, and specific components such as the A-pillars. Other utilitarian components, e.g. engines, front bumper assembly, seats, and cockpit guarantees will come from Kölleda, Germany; Peguform, Germany; Faurecia, Netherlands; and Johnsons Controls, Netherlands. Furthermore, Pininfarina will focus on producing the essential structural components such as the rear bumper, rear lamps, trunk lid, and the body-in-white assembly which includes painting the body and post assemblies with particular elements. Lastly, the retractable hard-top will be assembled by OASys (Webasto) at an in-plant within the Pininfarina factory.
Overall, a total of 65% of Mitsubishi Colt CZC parts are carried over from the Colt 3-door or 5-door variants, emphasizing the international teamwork of this project. Tim Tozer exclaimed his honour to work with Pininfarina, stressing their involvement in the development process from the CZ2 Cabriolet concept to the final product. Similarly, Andrea Pininfarina expressed the great trust between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Pininfarina throughout this project.
