Based on the fourth-generation Eclipse coupe that arrived in 2006, the 2007 Eclipse Spyder is the perfect mix of "Driven to Thrill" design and performance with a high-tech convertible top and an outstanding value. Mitsubishi's innovative four-wheel independent suspension ensures the Eclipse Spyder has both sporty road handling as well as a comfortable ride. Additionally, buyers have the choice of two trim levels: the GS model, powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 162 hp, mated to either a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic; or the Spyder GT with its 3.8-liter V-6, providing 260 hp and 258 lb-ft peak torque, paired with a standard six-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic with Sportronic(TM) shifters, enabling manual gear shift control. Both the four-cylinder and V-6 engines feature Mitsubishi MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control system) technology for optimal engine efficiency and power across a broad engine speed range.
The Spyder's automatic cloth top folds completely out of sight under a flush-fitting powered tonneau cover in about 19 seconds with a fully lined interior, like that of a coupe. The Eclipse also offers a glass rear window with a defroster. Inside the car the "attainable exotic" design theme continues; the wave-form instrument panel contains easy-to-read and access controls with distinct motorcycle-inspired gauges and ice blue LED nighttime illumination, with Avante Garde (terra cotta), Hi-Q Sport (medium gray) and Techno-Sport (dark charcoal) come as color schemes. The comfortable, one-piece high-back front seats draw inspiration from Mitsubishi's involvement in motorsports, as does the audio system remote-control steering wheel.
