Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII [EU]

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, commonly referred to as the "EVO", is the Japanese automaker's flagship sports car. Built upon the same unibody of the domesticated Lancer sedan, the Evolution is a rally-inspired, turbocharged, and all-wheel-drive vehicle that is highly sophisticated and finely-tuned. It was designed to meet the regulations of the World Rally Championship's Group A class and SCCA Pro Rally Championship and, for this reason, the Evolution is mainly based around the Lancer. The Evolution is notably more powerful than the Lancer with select modifications that have been made in order to bring the two cars even closer in the performance spectrum. Since 1993, nine street versions of the Lancer Evolution have been released, including the Evo V-VI models which were originally intended for the Japanese markets, but found success among 'grey import' markets around the world. In 2003, Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation to the United States after realizing the success Subaru had in the same automotive market with the Impreza WRX, a direct competitor of the Lancer Evolution in other global regions. The US-spec version of the 2006 Lancer Evolution currently features a powerful turbocharged and variable valve-timed 286-hp (213 kW) inline four-cylinder engine coupled to a full-time all-wheel-drive powertrain. Although standard components are also considered to be "tuned" in comparison to other vehicles, the weight of the Lancer has increased over the years in order to meet tougher safety and emission regulations set by the worldwide automotive industry.
