Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (colloquially referred to as the "EVO") is a rally-inspired sports car that draws its design elements from the Lancer sedan. Unlike the standard Lancer, the Evolution features all-wheel drive, turbocharged power, and finely tuned components that boost the performance of the car. Nine variations of the EVO have been released since 1993, with each iteration becoming increasingly more technologically advanced. Mitsubishi originally launched the Evolution only in Japanese markets, but due to high demand, the brand decided to export the car to the United Kingdom starting in 1998. In 2003, Mitsubishi brought the EVO to the United States, to compete with Subaru's Impreza WRX. The current 2006 incarnation of the EVO is equipped with a turbocharged 286 hp (213 kW) inline four-cylinder engine, a full-time all-wheel-drive powertrain, and variable valve timing via Mitsubishi's MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing-and-lift Electronic Control). Japanese-spec EVO models are limited to a maximum of 280 PS (276 hp); however, official power outputs of these models in other markets, like the UK, can reach as high as 405 bhp (302 kW). Even the standard components of the EVO are made for tuning; the flywheel of the car weighs significantly less than most other cars at 6 kilos, for quick engine response. As environmental and safety regulations become increasingly strict worldwide, the EVO has evolved into a heavier and heavier car with each generation.
