Mitsubishi Outlander Turbo [EU]

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a compact crossover SUV designed and produced by Mitsubishi Motors. It is loosely based on the Mitsubishi Lancer platform and is powered by an engine derived from the Mitsubishi Galant. It has replaced the Challenger/Montero Sport as Mitsubishi's entrant in the small SUV market. The primary competitors of the Outlander in the North American market are the Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-7, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Pontiac Vibe, Saturn VUE, Hyundai Tucson/Kia Sportage, and Ford Escape/Mazda CX-5. The Outlander was first introduced to North Americans in 2003 and was essentially a Japanese-market Mitsubishi Airtrek, featuring a modified, more rugged-looking front end. In the rest of the world, it retains the Outlander nameplate. The North American version is available in three trim levels—LS, XLS, and Limited (introduced in 2005). Both front wheel and all wheel drive options are available for all trims. In the all wheel drive version, "open" differentials are used for the front and rear axles, with a viscous coupling unit for the center differential. North Americans can only choose from the 2.4 L I4 engine which produces 160 hp and 162 ft·lbf of torque. The Airtrek, however, also offers a Turbocharged version. Another feature which uniquely adds to the Outlander is its Sportronic semi-automatic transmission system (also known as a Tiptronic shift system), which allows the driver to control the shifting overall, up or down by using the shift lever. The 2005 model year notably introduced a 5-speed manual transmission for the LS trim.
