Mitsubishi Racing Lancer

The development of the Mitsubishi Racing Lancer was a joint effort between Mitsubishi Motors' motor sport department and MMSP to comply with the Group T1 regulations of the FIA. The new super production regulations due to come into force in 2010 were taken into account in the design of the car. The construction of the turbo-diesel engine began in April 2006 and was later fitted to a Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution for trial purposes. The body was developed from August 2007 and the car was completed in June 2008. Subsequently, it went through rigorous testing on tracks in Spain and Morocco as well as over cross-country rally terrain in France. Based on the data gathered, further sessions were conducted in Morocco in late August/early September and October before its debut on the Baja Portalegre (FIA Cross-Country Baja International Cup) in November 2008. The Mitsubishi Racing Lancer is fitted with a multi-tubular steel frame which was designed to minimize weight. Its wheelbase was extended to meet the regulations of 2010, creating more space for the gas tank and therefore bringing down the centre of gravity. The new position of the spare tyres has also increased the car's handling capabilities.
