Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car currently being manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan. It is a descendant of the Nissan Bluebird, which was first produced in 1957, and is larger and more expensive than the compact Sentra, while less luxuriously apppointed and less powerful than the Maxima. The Altima competes with the Honda Accord, Mazda6, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata. While available in North America, the Altima is also sold in the Middle East, and is similar to the Teana which is sold in other markets and slots between the Altima and Maxima in size. The Altima first sold in 1993, and was originally produced as a compact car until 2002 when it crossed over to the mid-size class. It is unique to North America and has no equivalent model in Japan. Under the hood, the Altima is powered by a QR25DE engine – a 2.5 L straight-4 DOHC engine with a power of 175 hp (130 kW) – and a VQ35DE engine – a 3.5 L V6 DOHC with 250 hp (186 kW). A sporty SE-R model was added in 2005 with a power of 260 hp (194 kW). This model featured 18-inch Forged Aluminum wheels, along with an upgraded brake system, suspension, performance exhaust, sculpted lower body and more. As testament to its quality, the Nissan Altima won the North American Car of the Year award for 2002.
