Nissan Denki Cube Concept

Starting with the current-generation Nissan Cube, the designers devised the Nissan Denki Cube Concept. Looking to its traditional automotive style - square, minimalist, asymmetrical and humble - the Cube was given a new EV powertrain and exclusive exterior and interior modifications. The exterior of the Nissan Denki Cube Concept got a new look with a "electric themed" grille featuring an AC power charging port, a bold "lightning" headlight design, updated bumpers and turn signal lamps, and unseen taillights held within the signature Cube asymmetrical rear quarter. Additionally, the roof sheet metal has been substituted with a all-glass panel granting the interior a feeling of expansiveness. Further refinements come in the form of new door mirrors and one-of-a-kind 16-inch wheel covers, completed with a special white pearl paint and graphics. Within the cabin, the designers went for a cozy, relaxed sensation akin to a treasured spot in the owner's home. Unlike the production Cube that offers three rows of seating, the Nissan Denki Cube Concept provides two and the wheelbase was stretched 9.4 inches to make room for the lithium-ion battery cells. Those same cells are powered by a unique electric motor and enveloped by the laminated lithium-ion batteries positioned below the floor and seats. These laminated components cooperate to deliver more power, vast amounts of energy, and battery stability that past cylindrical batteries are unable to match. Nissan's lithium-ion battery technology, their traditional forte, yields batteries with double the energy and added safety by way of a chemically steady spine-structured manganese as the electrode material. This lead to the creation of Automotive Energy Supply Corp. (AESC) formed by Nissan, NEC Corp., and NEC Tokin Corp. in order to unlock potential of lithium-ion batteries and decrease costs. “Nissan first had an electric vehicle in the road in 1947 and has been field-testing lithium-ion batteries for more than ten years,” mentioned Castignetti. “Our ongoing goal is to dramatically enhance future battery performance while reducing battery costs.”
