The Nissan Murano is a near-luxury mid-size crossover SUV that has been deemed by many as the “maxima of SUVs”. Sitting above the Pathfinder at the top of Nissan’s lineup, the Murano is designed at Nissan Design-America in La Jolla, California, and is based on the Nissan FF-L platform which is shared with the Maxima and the third-generation Altima. It is deemed to be one of the largest vehicles available with a continuously variable transmission and is praised for its luxury features, modern safety features, and respectable engine.
In 2003, the Murano was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award and was named the best premium midsize SUV by AutoPacific. It is now also Nissan's best-selling SUV in the United States. Despite its size being similar to the Pathfinder, it is more expensive than the compact-SUV.
