Nissan Qashqai

In many parts of the world, the 2007 Nissan Qashqai is making its mark as the perfect crossover car. It has the soul of a coupe and the flexibility of a hatchback. This stylish urban car was designed in London, and built in Sunderland, topped off with a formidable name inspired by a nomadic people from southwestern Iran. The Qashqai is offered in European, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets. The Nissan Qashqai features four engines, two gasoline (petrol) and two diesel. The 1.5-litre diesel engine provides 106 horsepower and 240Nm of torque, and the 2.0-litre puts out 150 hp and 320Nm of torque. The petrol option has a 1.6-litre engine with 115 horsepower and 160Nm of torque, or a 140hp and 200Nm version of the 2.0-litre. As for the gearbox, the vehicle is offered with five-speed and six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, and CVT. An all-wheel drive system is also available with both the diesel and petrol versions of the 2-litre engine which provides additional road safety - this car is meant for street use. The Nissan Qashqai is slightly larger than the average hatchback with a wheelbase of 2630mm, and a width of 1780mm. The interior has a sporty feel, featuring a raised main console and instrument panels that are deeply recessed. At its launch in Paris last September, Nissan's president and CEO Carlos Ghosn expressed that the Qashqai will be a cash cow with expected sales of 100,000 units in the first year - a testament to the car's dynamic design, driving performance, and attractive premium interior. There is no information on whether the Nissan Qashqai will ever be offered in the United States. Related: Nissan Murano review
