Nissan Xterra

Introduced in the 2000 model year, the Nissan Xterra is a compact SUV based on the Nissan F-Alpha platform and shares many similarities with the Nissan Frontier pickup. It slots below the Pathfinder in Nissan's lineup and became the recipient of both the North American Truck of the Year award and Motor Trend magazine's Sport/Utility of the Year for 2000. It won the Motor Trend award again in 2006, further reinforcing its overall popularity. All Xterras are now manufactured in Smyrna, Tennessee and São José dos Pinhais, Brazil. The Xterra is also known as the Nissan Roniz in Iran, where it is built under a licence by Pars Khodro. It is Nissan's smallest SUV in the North American market, exterior of the X-Trail sold in Canada and Mexico. Nissan is the primary sponsor of the XTERRA series of off-road triathlons, a name that was derived from the Xterra. The Xterra was promoted by Nissan as a utilitarian-style SUV, with the slogan “Everything you need, nothing you don't.” while targeting the adventurous and outdoor consumer. It is recognised by a raised rear roofline and a “hump” in the back liftgate. The raised roof allows for stadium seating, while the hump allows for a first aid kit to be stored in the liftgate. For the first generation of the Xterra, Nissan incorporated a steel ladder frame, ABS brakes, a DOHC four-cylinder engine, a host of cargo-friendly features, and numerous interior options. It is also available in a wide range of trim levels, all-wheel-drive system, and suspension choices. These features make the Xterra a suitable option for a range of ages, incomes, lifestyles and genders.
