Oldsmobile Alero OSV

The Oldsmobile Alero was introduced in spring 1998 as a 1999 model to replace the Achieva and Cutlass. The Alero went into production on April 6, 1998, and all units were built in Lansing, Michigan. It was Oldsmobile's last compact car, and the brand's final vehicle produced. Production for the Alero came to an end on April 29, 2004.

History

The Alero originated from the Alpha concept car, displayed in 1997. It featured a V6-powered two-door coupe design with elements seen both in the concept vehicle and the production mode. Available as a four door sedan or two door coupe, the Alero shared many parts with the Pontiac Grand Am. It was also a part of the GM N platform. In 2003, the Alero's daytime running lights were changed from high-beam to low-beam. The car was also sold in select European markets as the Chevrolet Alero, in both sedan and Oldsmobile models. It was distinguished from similar vehicles with its Oldsmobile badges, and Chevrolet emblems were added during its 2000 model year. The very last Alero produced – 500 out of 500 – featured a unique design with vintage Oldsmobile logos, dark cherry metallic paint, and a plate showing the car's number. This Final 500 Edition Alero was also the last Oldsmobile ever built and was provided to the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum with signatures from employees of the General Motors Lansing plant beneath its hood.
