Oldsmobile Aurora

The Oldsmobile Aurora was a luxury automobile made by General Motors' Oldsmobile division. It was originally released in 1995 as a replacement for the discontinued Toronado 2-door personal luxury coupe. This 4-door sedan was built on the same Cadillac-derived G platform as the 2-door Buick Riviera and served as the flagship model for Oldsmobile following the demise of the Ninety Eight in 1996. In 2001, to bring a new life to Oldsmobile, it was given a V6 engine designed to replace the Eighty-Eight and the LSS. This design did not even feature the Oldsmobile name, and rumors that the entire marque would be changed to "Aurora" made the rounds. Second Generation Oldsmobile's original plans for the second generation Aurora was to move it further upmarket and retain its V8-only drivetrain. It was to share a platform with the new Buick Riviera, just as the original Aurora had. However, this plan never came to be, as Buick dropped its Riviera development, and Oldsmobile was forced to re-engineer the Antares into the Aurora. As such, the 2001 Aurora was downsized, becoming the successor of the H-body Eighty-Eight on the shorter wheelbase G-body, which was used for the Buick LeSabre, Pontiac Bonneville and more. This Aurora was the first to feature a V6 engine, with the LX-5 being a cut-down relation of the DOHC Aurora V8. The V6-powered Aurora was made in the 2001 and 2002 model years only, and had a total of 71,722 second-generation Auroras rolled off the assembly line (53,640 in 2001, 10,865 in 2002, 7,217 in 2003). The two engines available for it were the 2001-2002 LX5 3.5 L (214 in³) V6, 215 hp @ 5600 rpm/ 230 ft·lbf torque @ 4400 rpm, and the 2001-2003 L47 4.0 L (244 in³) V8, 250 hp @ 5600 rpm/ 260 ft·lbf torque @ 4400 rpm.
