Oldsmobile Intrigue 2002 posters

Oldsmobile Intrigue

The Oldsmobile Intrigue was a mid-size sedan manufactured by General Motors' Oldsmobile division from 1998 through 2002. Its design was first introduced in 1995 with the Oldsmobile Antares concept car. The Intrigue was the first vehicle to be phased out when Oldsmobile started to phase out. Designed to be a more competitive contender against Japanese automobiles, the Intrigue replaced the Cutlass Supreme and went into production on May 5, 1997. The Intrigue was similar in structure to a range of mid-sized sedans from other GM divisions, including the Buick Century, Buick Regal, Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Monte Carlo and the Pontiac Grand Prix. However, the Intrigue had some variations in its chassis tuning, equipment and dimensions with a 1.5 inch shorter wheelbase than the Grand Prix. All Intrigues were built at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas, sharing the same manufacturing line with the Grand Prix. For the 1999 model year, a new, sophisticated DOHC 3.5L "Shortstar" engine, a six-cylinder based on the GM Northstar V8, was introduced as standard on the top-line GLS and optional on mid-level GL and base GX models, later becoming standard across all models. Other changes throughout the years include new optional features such as GM's OnStar emergency/communications system, an antiskid system, heated power front seats, and traction control. On June 14, 2002, the final Intrigue rolled off the assembly line, being part of the Final 500 Collectors Edition. Production of the Intrigue was halted as part of the phaseout process of the Oldsmobile brand.
