Oldsmobile Silhouette OSV

General Motors' second attempt at producing a minivan to compete with Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager was the Oldsmobile Silhouette, along with its siblings, the Pontiac Trans Sport and Chevrolet Lumina APV. The first generation Silhouette, built in 1989 as a 1990 model, was coined "The Cadillac of Minivans" and was featured in the 1995 film Get Shorty. In 1997, GM released an entirely new U platform series of minivans based on the lessons learned from the "dustbuster" minivans. This new series of minivans was smaller and narrower in order to equally fit the North American and European markets. The first Silhouette of the second generation rolled off the assembly line in Doraville, Georgia on August 6, 1996. Upon the demise of Oldsmobile in 2004, the Buick Terraza was released as its replacement the following year in 2005.
