Opel Astra GTC with Panoramic Roof

The Opel Astra GTC is a sporty three-door hatchback version of the Astra H, debuting in 2005 and offered for sale in European and UK markets. It is equipped with an optional panoramic windscreen, a production car feature that was unique at the time of its launch. The Astra was based on the updated T-platform and was larger than its predecessor. It was manufactured up until the end of 2009 and the TwinTop continued to be produced until November 2010. The Astra H's sedan version also launched in 2004, and was marketed as the Chevrolet Vectra in Brazil, until it was replaced by the Chevrolet Cruze in 2009. In 2006, the same model was also sold as an Opel in some Eurasian markets, which was then manufactured in Gliwice, Poland. Later that same year, the Astravan, a 3-door van variant of the estate, was released. In 2007, a 5-door version of the Astra was launched in Brazil as the Chevrolet Vectra GT. Also in 2008, GM Russia began SKD assembly of the Astra near Saint Petersburg, with a potential capacity of 25,000 vehicles annually. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Astra was discontinued in Mexico in 2008 due to the withdrawal of the Opel brand from the market, and replaced in 2010 by the Chevrolet Cruze sedan. The Astra GTC offers some innovations for its class, including digital radio on some versions, as well as electronically controlled chassis (IDS+) and AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting). Meanwhile, the Opel Astra Classic III from Bochum was available to some Eastern European markets as a 5-door hatchback or estate. Lasting until the end of 2012, the Astravan was eventually replaced by the new Opel Combo D.
