Opel RAK e Concept

At the Frankfurt International Motor Show, Opel has taken the centre stage with the all-new battery-powered electric vehicle, Opel RAK e Concept. The concept car's unique emphasis is on energy costs, efficiency and lightweight design. The RAK e pushes electrification of the automobile even further. With battery power, it can travel up to 100 kilometers per euro, a third of the weight of modern cars and a maximum speed of 120 km/h. "The Ampera demonstrates our commitment to electric vehicles and the RAK e takes this a step further," said Karl-Friedrich Stracke, Opel CEO. "It's a cool car but with a very affordable price. Efficiency in the future will be measured in euros, rather than liters per 100 km, and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved with our '1 euro car'." The RAK e is constructed with a steel space-frame and a skin of synthetic material that is light in weight, whilst providing superior safety. Throughout its design, Opel has chosen to keep cost to a minimum, opting for practice materials rather than expensive composite ones to make electric vehicles more accessible in future.
