The Opel Speedster, also badged as the Vauxhall VX220 for the UK market, was a roadster produced from 2001 to 2005 by Lotus for General Motors's subsidiary Opel. Both Speedster and VX220 share the same platform with the Lotus Elise, providing both excellent performance and handling. The original Speedster and VX220 were powered by the GM 2.2 L 16-valve Ecotec L61 engine, generating up to 147 hp ECE (108 kW). In 2003, an even more powerful 2.0 L turbocharged version of the engine was unveiled, making up to 200 hp ECE (147 kW) and offering a top speed of 242 km/h (151 mph) as well as acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
