Peugeot 407 Silhouette Concept

The Peugeot 407 was a large family car produced by French automaker Peugeot from 2004 to 2010. It was available in saloon, coupé and estate variants, with petrol and diesel engines ranging from 1.8 to 3.0-litre displacement. In January 2011, it was succeeded by the Peugeot 508, which had been announced in November 2009 by PSA CEO Philippe Varin. The 407 was a successor to the widely successful Peugeot 406, and was first unveiled on May 27, 2004. It was very attractive, with a large, stylish front grille and steeply raked screen pillars. The 407 SW estate was four months behind the saloon, and the coupé in January 2006. It achieved its peak annual sales of 259,000 units in 2005, with 57,000 sales outside Europe. In August 2008, the models got a minor upgrade, and most petrol-engined models were discontinued in the UK and other European countries. It also had AMVAR electronic suspension, which individually controls each wheel’s damping and adapting the hardness of the ride every 2.5 milliseconds. 407 Concept Cars The saloon was initially presented as the "407 Elixir" at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The "407 Silhouette" was a race car with most design elements of the eventual production coupé, and a preview of this model was presented at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show under the name "407 Prologue". The "407 Macarena" is a four-door convertible produced by Heuliez, which was showcased at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. Successor The new Peugeot 508 officially replaced the 607 (originally planned to be called the 608) in October 2010 at the Paris Motor Show. It is around 12 cm longer than the 407 and replaces the bigger 607. In America, the Peugeot 408 name is used for a Chinese-built version of the Peugeot 308, intended as a replacement for the 407.
