Peugeot 407 Prologue Concept

The Peugeot 407 was a large family car manufactured by the French automaker Peugeot from 2004 to 2010. It came with a variety of petrol and diesel engine options, ranging from 1.8 to 3.0-litres displacement. The 407 featured a saloon, coupé, and estate versions, and was succeeded by the 508 in January 2011. It also came in as a runner-up in the 2005 European Car of the Year award. Upon launch in May 2004, the streamlined design of the 407 was seen as quite radical, featuring a large front grille and steeply raked screen pillars. The 407 SW estate was launched four months later, followed by the coupé in January 2006. Its annual sales peaked in 2005, with a total of 259,000 units, 57,000 of which were sold outside Europe. The models underwent a minor facelift in August 2008, after which most petrol-engined models were withdrawn from the UK and other European countries. The 407 was available with AMVAR electronic suspension, which controlled each wheel's damping independently and adjusted the hardness of the ride every 2.5 milliseconds according to the driver's style. Several concept cars based on the 407 were released over the years, including the 407 Elixir at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, and the 407 Macarena at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. The successor of the Peugeot 607 is the Peugeot 508, which was officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010. This saloon vehicle is about 12 cm (5 inches) longer than the 407. For markets in America, the Peugeot 408 has been released as a notchback version of the 308, taking the place of the 407.
