Peugeot 407 Silhouette Concept

The Peugeot 407 is a large family car manufactured by French automaker Peugeot from 2004 to 2010. It was available in saloon, coupé and estate variants, powered by petrol and diesel engines ranging from 1.8 to 3.0-litres displacement. The 407, along with the 607, was succeeded by the 508 in early 2011. According to the European Car of the Year website, the 407 was an acclaimed runner-up in the 2005 award. Its launch was on May 27, 2004, and featured a contemporary design with a large front grille and steeply raked screen pillars. The estate version was launched four months after the saloon, followed by the coupé in January 2006. The 407 boasted a peak annual sales rate of 259,000 in 2005, with 57,000 sales outside Europe. In August 2008, Peugeot gave the models a minor facelift, resulting in most petrol-engined variants being withdrawn from sale in the UK, and other parts of Europe. One of the features available with the 407 was AMVAR electronic suspension, that controls each wheel's damping independently, adapting the hardness of the ride every 2.5 milliseconds to suit the driving style. 407 concepts cars previewedThe saloon version of the 407 was previewed as "407 Elixir" at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The "407 Silhouette" was a race car resembling the released coupé, unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show as "407 Prologue". At the Geneva Motor Show of 2006, the "407 Macarena" was introduced as a four-door coupé convertible produced by Heuliez. SuccessorIn November 2009, Philippe Varin, from PSA, announced that the successor of the Peugeot 607 would be the Peugeot 508, which was officially launched at the Paris Motor Show in October, 2010. The 508 saloon is approximately 12 cm (5 inches) longer than the 407. The Peugeot 408 is now the American nameplate of the Peugeot 308, that replaces the 407.
