Peugeot 607

The Peugeot 607 was launched in 1999 to replace the 605. Sporting a chassis identical to its predecessor, it was complemented by an entirely new, more modern exterior design. Additionally, the engine range, which included 2.2 and 3.0 petrol models, as well as a 2.2 diesel engine, was completely new. Standard equipment levels were high, with all models offering amenities such as air conditioning, CD player, electric windows, airbags, an anti-lock braking system, and central locking. Unfortunately, this model has followed suit with other Peugeot executive cars from the 1970s in its significant lack of success, with sales in foreign markets only proportionately small in comparison to models such as the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. In France, the 607 is a popular choice for official use, especially when Renault's Vel Satis is considered too unconventional. Criticisms by auto journalists such as Jeremy Clarkson brought into question the model's handling, as they considered it not to be up to Peugeot's usual standards with Clarkson going as far as to list it as the worst car ever created. The 607 was restyled in 2004, featuring a new front end and a 2.7 HDi V6 engine, capable of producing more than 200 bhp and that was mated to a new 6-speed automatic gearbox. The V6 petrol model was also assigned this equipped gearbox. Engines
