Pontiac Aztek SRV 2001 posters

Pontiac Aztek SRV

The Pontiac Aztek, was a mid-size crossover SUV produced by the General Motors marque Pontiac. This model was introduced late in the 2001 model year, alongside competitors such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Highlander, and was produced until the 2005 model year. It is notorious for its polarizing exterior styling, which has been the source of much ridicule from the press and the public. Background As most SUVs rarely left the pavement, a new type of car-based "crossover" SUV was developed which aimed to provide all the desired elements of an SUV (such as cargo space and seat height) without the associated downsides (low fuel efficiency, high step-in height and risk of rollover). This concept had already proven successful with the Lexus RX300 and Toyota Highlander, and was seen as a profitable market for the industry. Original concept The Pontiac Aztek had first been revealed to the public in 1999, and was fairly well-received due to its "Xtreme" futuristic style, which was meant to appeal to its targeted 'Generation X' buyers. Its release in 2001 was accompanied by its slogan "Quite possibly the most versatile vehicle on the planet" and was promoted in conjunction with the hit CBS show Survivor.
