Pontiac is rolling out a refreshed look for its popular G6 mid-size vehicle family with updated exterior styling, interior instrument panel, and new powertrain options for 2009.5 model year, which will be available in dealerships starting in January. "The Pontiac G6 has been one of our most important vehicles and has been the number-one seller since its launch in 2004," Susan Docherty, vice president of Buick-Pontiac-GMC commented. "These enhancements for 2009 will ensure the G6 remains popular with its reputation for sporty style and handling without compromising on value and fuel efficiency."
All Pontiac G6 models, including the sedan, coupe and convertible, will receive the interior design upgrades. The Pontiac G6 GXP models will remain the same with no changes to their exterior styling or powertrain.
New Powertrain Options
The Pontiac G6 coupe will now come will a new powertrain option, the GM's fuel-efficient, 164-horsepower 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine, which is partnered with a six-speed automatic transmission and a TAPshift manual shift system with steering wheel-mounted paddle controls. This engine is capable of 33 miles per gallon efficiency on regular gasoline to match the current Pontiac G6 sedan.
In areas with access to E85 ethanol-based fuel, G6 models can opt for a FlexFuel version of the 219-horsepower 3.5L V6 as a no-cost alternative to the standard 3.5L engine option.
