Pontiac G6 Concept

The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car released in 2005. It is based on GM's Epsilon platform and is shared by the Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3, Saturn Aura, Opel Vectra, and Cadillac BLS. Its design, first seen at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, marked the retirement of Pontiac's Grand Am. It is most similar to the Mitsubishi Galant and Ford Fusion. Its launch was a major publicity stunt as 276 cars were famously given away to the audience of The Oprah Winfrey Show's fall 2004 season premiere, resulting in $110 million in media attention. Within a year, it was the 11th best selling car in the United States (2005) and won awards from JD Power (APEAL), Strategic Vision ("Total Quality" and "Delight") and was declared "Car of the Year" by Automundo magazine. Present bodystyles include sedan, coupe, and a coupe convertible released at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. According to Time magazine, the car was not capitalized by GM due to the fact that they delayed the launch of the four-cylinder version, coupe, and convertible - leading to sales relying on incentives and fleet deals. PlantThe Pontiac G6 is produced in the Orion Township, Michigan assembly plant. This follows the closure of Lansing, Michigan's assembly plant (where the Grand Am was produced until May 2, 2005), while the majority of 3,500 workers were moved to the Delta Township, Michigan factory at the end of 2006. EngineThe G6 comes standard with the 2.4 L Ecotec four-cylinder engine. The GT model comes standard with the 3.5 L LX9 engine generating 201 horsepower (yielding a torque of 222 ft-lb) - present model years use the 3.5 L LZ4. The GTP model comes standard with a 3.9 L engine, giving the car 240 horsepower (with a torque of 241 ft-lb). The 2oo7 GT + Sport Package will upgrade to the 3.6 L V6 and the new 6-speed automatic.
