Pontiac G6 GTP Convertible

The 2005 Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car based on the GM Epsilon platform, and its shared componentry makes it a relative to the Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3, Saturn Aura, Opel Vectra, and Cadillac BLS. Launched at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, the G6 takes the place of the Pontiac Grand Am, using the 6th generation of the latter's platform. It takes inspiration from the Mitsubishi Galant and Ford Fusion.

In order to promote the G6, 276 cars were given away on the 2005 season premiere of the Oprah Winfrey Show, gaining extensive worldwide publicity. Approximately 10 months after its release, it became the 11th best sold car in the United States, also obtaining a number of consumer-based industry awards from JD Power (APEAL), Strategic Vision ("Total Quality" and "Delight"), and Car of the Year from the Spanish magazine Automundo.

The Pontiac G6 is available in three body styles: coupe, sedan and, since 2005, convertible. The convertible variant is equipped with a power retractable hardtop, and got off to a great start, becoming the least expensive model of its kind in the US. It is produced in the Orion Township, Michigan assembly plant, taking over on May 2, 2005 when the Lansing, Michigan plant closed.

It is powered by a 2.4 L Ecotec four cylinder engine in the base spec, and a 3.5 L LX9 engine, with201 hp (150 kW) and 222 ft·lbf (301 N·m) of torque, in the GT models of 2005 and 2006. As for the GTP, it was fitted with a 3.9 L LZ9 engine, offering 240 hp (179 kW) and 241 ft·lbf (327 N·m) of torque. From 2007, the 3.9 L V6 will join the GT + Sport Package and get replaced by a 3.6 L V6 in the GTP, alongside a new 6-speed automatic.
