Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe

The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car released in 2005 that was based on the GM Epsilon platform. It was introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, and was seen as a replacement to the Pontiac Grand Am (which shared its platform and components with the Oldsmobile Alero). Showcasing the connection between car and culture, 276 cars were given away to audience members of The Oprah Winfrey Show on the show's 2004 season premiere, generating international attention and a reported US$110 million in publicity. The G6 immediately earned awards from JD Power (APEAL), Strategic Vision ("Total Quality" and "Delight") as well as becoming a Consumer Reports Recommended Buy, and Automundo's Car of the Year. It reached the 11th spot for best-selling cars in the United States in 2005. It is currently available in coupe, sedan and convertible bodystyles. The convertible started arriving on dealerships during the Spring of 2006 with the GT trim starting at $28,490, and the GTP model starting at $29,990. The starting price made it the most inexpensive retractable hardtop on the U.S. market. The base engine of the G6 is a 2.4L Ecotec four cylinder. The GT model comes with a 3.5L LX9 engine that yields 201 hp (150 kW) and 222 ft·lbf (301 N·m) of torque. In 2006, the G6 GTP was introduced with the 3.9 L LZ9 engine, producing 240 hp (179 kW) and 241 ft·lbf (327 N·m) of torque. The Pontiac G6 replaced the Pontiac Grand Am, which ended production on May 2, 2005 when its Lansing, Michigan assembly plant closed. Many of the 3,500 workers were moved to the new Delta Township, Michigan assembly plant in 2006, with the car being produced at the Orion Township, Michigan assembly plant.
