Pontiac GTO 2006 posters

Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO nameplate was revived for the 2004 model year, now as an American-market version of the Australian-built Holden Monaro. Despite the fact that the new GTO was based on an entirely different vehicle than the classic "Old Goat" muscle car, its introduction was prompted by former GM chairman Bob Lutz, who had driven a Holden Monaro on a business trip in Australia. For 2004, the Pontiac GTO was equipped with the Chevrolet Corvette's LS1 V8 engine with the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Although sales were below expectations, GTO still achieved production numbers of 12,000 per year.

To increase the car's sportiness, an optional hood scoop was added for the 2005 model year. The Pulse Red package, provided Pulse Red paint and exclusive red embroidery on the seats, and was available only in 2004. Only 800 of these were made.
