Pontiac Montana SV6

For the 2005 model year, Pontiac updated the Montana to have a less aerodynamic "SUV" shape and changed its name to the Montana SV6. Under the hood was a 3.5 L High Value 3500 LX9 V6 producing 200 hp (150 kW) and 220 ft·lb (300 N·m). In 2006, a 3.9 L LZ9 V6 was added with 240 hp (179 kW) and 240 lb·ft (332 N·m) of torque — plus GM badges on the front doors. The following year, the 3.5 L was dropped and the 3.9 L became the new base engine. Unfortunately, the AWD option only worked with the 3.5 L engine, retiring the optional 4WD system for good. Nevertheless, a flex-fuel version of the 3.9 L was available in Canada for the SV6. The Montana SV6 was the costliest cousin in its class — consisting of the Chevrolet Uplander, Saturn Relay, and Buick Terraza — and was only sold in a long-wheelbase version in the U.S. In Mexico, the Montana continued until 2009 with the 3.9 L V6 as the only engine option. The Pontiac Montana SV6 was almost identical to the one in North America, except in Canada, where unsold 2009 models were re-marketed as 2010. After, these models were adapted for collective taxi use in Toronto and Montreal starting in 2011. On November 21, 2005, GM announced that the Doraville, Georgia plant which produced the SV6 would close in 2008. However, sales of the SV6 were so poor in the US market that production ended the following year — in July 7, 2006. In Canada and Mexico, production continued for three more years until the Pontiac brand ceased operations. The last Pontiac Montana SV6 was a Canadian-bound, roof-rack-equipped short wheelbase model in Liquid Silver Metallic, which was delivered to the Marvin Starr dealership in 2008.
