The 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe was designed with classic sports car admirers in mind. Unveiled as a GXP model at the New York International Auto Show, it aims to bring the success of the convertible Solstice model to a wider variety of drivers. Despite having a fixed roof and windows, the coupe still provides an “open-air experience” with its removable roof panel and fully opening cockpit. Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager commented: “Today's Solstice is the top-selling roadster in the U.S., and we believe this new model has even broader appeal. The coupe has all the design cues and pleasing performance of the original roadster, and is an all-season alternative for people who enjoy open-air driving.” The making of a coupe The Pontiac Solstice Coupe is a modern reimagining of the 2002 concept car of the same name. With a “fastback” shape and stylized “rails” running along the roof, the Coupe also comes with a functional ducktail-style rear spoiler.
