Pontiac Sunfire American Tuner

The Pontiac Sunfire was introduced for the 1995 model year, replacing the Sunbird. It featured a fresh new look and a structurally updated J-platform to better satisfy safety standards. It was available as a sedan, coupe, or convertible, in SE or GT trim levels. The SE trim came with a 2.2 litre engine while the GT trim received a 2.3 litre (1995) or 2.4 litre (1996-2002) engine, as well as 16-inch alloy wheels and a dual exhaust system. The convertible was only available in the SE trim level until 1999, when it was limited to the GT trim. The convertible was discontinued after 2000 and all models were assembled at the Genesis Lansing, Michigan Plant. The Sunfire saw two facelifts during its 11-year production: in 2000 and 2003. In the United States, only the coupe was made from 2003 to 2005. The sedan was sold in Canada and Mexico until production ended on June 22, 2005. It was then replaced by the Pontiac G5 in the US in 2007 and in Canada the following year. Engines available for the Pontiac Sunfire included the 2.3 and 2.4 litre DOHC and the 2.2 litre OHV in the SE trim, as well as the 2.2 litre Ecotec in the GT trim. The 2.2 litre engine was available from 1995 to 2002, whereas the Ecotec became the only engine choice as of 2003. The 2.2 litre engine was also an option in 2002.
