Pontiac Sunfire GXP

The Pontiac Sunfire was introduced in 1995, replacing the Sunbird. Styling changes, including shared design with the Chevy Cavalier, gave the car a brand new look. The J platform was structurally updated to adhere to stricter safety standards for the 1996 model year. The Sunfire was produced as a sedan, coupe, or convertible, with the base SE trim. The coupe and convertible could also be purchased as a GT trim, sporting a 2.3 or 2.4 litre engine with 16-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust, and more aggressive front fascia. The base 2.2 litre 2200 OHV Engine was standard for SE models, while the 2.3/2.4 DOHC was optional. The GT trim was removed in 2002, leaving the 2.2 litre engine as the only option for the 2003 model year. The Pontiac Sunfire underwent two facelifts in its eleven-year run: a 2000 update featuring plastic cladding, and a 2003 refresh. In the US, the coupe was the only variant from 2003 to 2005; in Canada and Mexico, the sedan was sold until the end of production in 2005. GM replaced the Sunfire with the G5 for the 2006 model year in Canada and the 2007 model year in the US.
