The all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe is here to give a modern twist to a classic hit, integrating the characteristics of a compact crossover with a bolder attitude, increased performance and tighter maneuverability. Available in dealerships beginning early 2008, the Vibe lineup will include the return of the all-wheel-drive and GT models. Its athletic design, performance, and functionality is unparalleled within its price range. According to Pontiac's marketing director, Craig Bierley, "We wanted to take everything we liked about the original and push it to the next level - more power, more style, more versatility."
Engine performance
This Vibe packs more power than ever before, with an available 132-horsepower (98 kW) 1.8L DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces 128 lb.-ft. (174 Nm) of torque. The engine utilizes dual variable valve timing for maximum performance and efficiency, matched with either a standard five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. Customers who prefer a higher performance engine can choose the 2.4L DOHC engine with 158 horsepower (118 kW) and 162 lb.-ft. (224 Nm) of torque, which is standard on AWD and GT models and optional on the base model.
