Pontiac Vibe GT

The Pontiac Vibe is a vehicle produced in Fremont, California at the NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.) manufacturing facility, which is a joint venture by General Motors and Toyota. This short and tall station wagon is being marketed as a fashionable, quasi-SUV for more youthful buyers. It was initially unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January of 2000, with availability beginning for the 2003 model year. Toyota also markets the same car as the Toyota Matrix in North America, with production happening in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada because of the lack of capacity at the Fremont location. The Pontiac Vibe GT comes with a 1.8-liter I4 16-valve engine that boasts a whopping 164 horsepower and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It has been labeled the most fuel efficient vehicle sold in North America by General Motors. The Vibe also contains a standard 115 volt AC electrical outlet located near the dashboard for common electrical devices. In an effort to match the look of the Pontiac Solstice, the Pontiac Vibe GT was refreshed with a new front grille and fascia in the 2005 model year. Sadly, due to poor sales and new emissions regulations, both the all-wheel drive and the GT version of this car will be dropped after the 2006 production year, leaving only the base model.
