Two decades after the very first Boxster debuted, Porsche is renewing its mid-engine roadsters with the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S models. What these new coupes offer is an improved power output yet with enhanced fuel efficiency. This is a result of the four-cylinder, flat-engines that Porsche has evoked from the past - having first been used on the 718 series of mid-engine sports cars, which won a number of racing titles in the 1950s and 1960s such as the Targa Florio and Le Mans.
The new Porsche 718 Boxster boasts a two-litre engine that produces 220 kW (300 hp) of power, while the 718 Boxster S is uniquely fitted with a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine and variable turbine geometry (VTG), producing an impressive 257 kW (350 hp). An increase of 26 kW (35 hp) compared to its predecessor also comes as standard here. The 718 Boxster models, in fact, have a fuel economy improvement of up to 13 per cent.
Headbanging in these Porsche moderns is made possible through the completely reworked chassis and sterner brakes. As for its exterior design, aside from the luggage compartments, windscreen and convertible top, the whole vehicle has been given an overhaul.
