Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0

The Porsche AG team is taking their racing to a new level when they enter the Nürburgring 24 hour race on June 25, 2011, with the revised Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. This version 2.0 is an advanced version of the predecessor, featuring improvements in efficiency and a weight reduction of 20%. By optimizing the hybrid components, the lap times achieved are intended to be as good as before but with less fuel consumption. The general layout of the hybrid system remains unchanged, featuring a four-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine that produces approximately 470 hp, which is paired with two electric motors that drive the front wheels. The output of both electric motor has increased to 75 kilowatts each, allowing for almost an additional 200 hp for a few seconds. The electric flywheel accumulator, with its rotor able to reach speeds of up to 40,000 rpm, is now placed in a carbon fiber safety cell on the passenger's side. A noticeable feature of this new GT3 R Hybrid is the absence of large louvers in front of the rear fenders. This reduces its drag, and at the same time, reduces fuel consumption. The new model has a decreased weight of 1,300 kilograms, compared to the previous 1,350 kilograms. Hartmut Kristen, head of the Porsche motorsport team, said that the data collected from previous races on the Nürburgring, at the ALMS race at Road Atlanta, as well as from the ILMC race on China's Zhuhai circuit, was pivotal for the development of the racing laboratory. The cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid has been revamped helping drivers to better navigate the centre console with backlit buttons and a steering wheel filled with displays and controls. Ergonomics and visibility, in particular during night-time, were given priority. The new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid encapsulates the 'Porsche Intelligent Performance' philosophy; one that focuses on producing higher power on less fuel, as well as reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions both on the track and on the road.
