The 2007 Porsche 911 Targa 4S has a distinctive roof system that offers its occupants with a truly breathtaking view even when the roof is shut. Its roof consists of two glass panels, running from the base of the windshield header to the upper edge of the engine cover, and from side frame to side frame. Therefore, the entire roof of the car is made of glass, creating a panoramic advantage for its passengers, as well as protection from the outside environment.
The glass panels are made of a unique formula that absorbs almost all ultraviolet radiation while also preventing the transmission of heat from the sun into the vehicle. In addition, there is an integrated power shade to provide coverage from the Sun, or insulation against cold temperatures. The front portion of the roof also slides forwards at the touch of a button, allowing for a larger opening on the inside.
Unlike other Porsche 911s, the Targa 4S features a hatch-style access to the car's interior, accommodating four passengers, together with its generous storage space of 8.1 cubic feet (230 liters) located behind the rear seatback. The Targa is also the only version of the Porsche 911 to boast a separately opening tailgate.
