Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid

Introducing the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid, set to debut in 2010 – a vehicle that represents Porsche engineers' achievement in driving at speeds up to 86mph without the combustion engine at all. It rolls freely - or 'coasts' - at highway speeds to minimize emissions and fuel consumption, unique from current hybrid concepts that are typically used in stop-and-go city traffic. Utilizing a parallel full hybrid design with an electric motor between the combustion engine and the transmission, the Cayenne S Hybrid gives drivers the "S" designation of V8 performance with four-cylinder efficiency, all while complying with the Ultra Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEVII) emission standards. Powered by a supercharged Audi 3.0-liter V6 engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) and a 52-horsepower three-phase synchronous electric motor, the total power output is 333 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque from 2,900 to 5,300 rpm. The combination is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the Cayenne S Hybrid has a 154-lb., 38 kW nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery that requires no maintenance and is stored in the spare tire well, which maintains the vehicle's full luggage capacity. When it comes to market in 2010, the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid is predicted to produce 20% lower C02 emissions than equivalent combustion engine models of similar power. On top of that, its performance is impressive, completing a 0-to-100 km/h dash in 6.8 seconds.
