Porsche Cayman R

The Porsche alphabet designates the letter R for exceptional sports cars: R for responsive and refined - but mostly for powerful driving. The new Porsche Cayman R embodies all of these qualities in full. The mid-engine Coupé is lighter and more powerful than the Cayman S, making it faster and more efficient, allowing for an even greater driving experience. Porsche's primary ambition in the designing of the Cayman R was to enhance the two-seater in terms of performance, driving dynamics, and agility through consistent weight reduction. Overall, the vehicle weight of the Cayman R was reduced by 55 kilograms to a DIN empty weight of 1295 kilograms in comparison to the Cayman S. This means that the vehicle's power-to-weight ratio with a standard manual transmission is 3.9 kilograms per horsepower; this increases to 4.0 kilograms per horsepower with PDK. The largest savings come from lightweight components and the elimination of convenience amenities. As an example, the standard version does not feature an air conditioning system or a radio, resulting in an overall reduction of 15 kilograms. On the bodywork side, a further 15 kilograms were made with the integration of aluminium doors, seen in the 911 Turbo. Other lightweight features include sports bucket seats which, despite enhancing the driver's side support during bends, contribute to a saving of 12 kilograms when compared to the seats found in the Cayman S. Trim-reduction, lack of a storage compartment, instrument cluster cover, cup holder and several other minor details amount to the Cayman R's lightweight package. Additionally, much like the 911 GT3/GT3 RS and Boxster Spyder, the Cayman R offers an optional lithium-ion lightweight construction battery. The Coupé is also equipped with the lightest 19-inch wheels of the entire Porsche program, amounting to a 40-kilogram reduction.
