Renault 14 TL 1976 posters

Renault 14 TL

The Renault 14 was a small family car produced by the French car manufacturer Renault between 1976 and 1983. Competing in the small family car segment, it had front-wheel drive technology and used a 1.2 L single overhead camshaft engine sourced from Peugeot. Its interior was quite spacious, and the design was practical. Unfortunately, Renault launched a poorly executed marketing campaign comparing the car's shape to a pear which gave it a negative reputation for oxidative body corrosion; in its home country of France, it consequently earned the nickname "La poire" ("the pear"). In an attempt to increase its appeal, Renault later added improved equipment and accessories to the 14, but the damage was done and the production ended in 1983 with around million units sold during its seven year run. Today, the Renault 14 is a rare sight even in France where they usually last longer due to easy access to parts from dealerships. Its successors, the Renault 9 and 11, were released in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Timeline
