Renault 30 TX 1978 posters

Renault 30 TX

Launched in March 1975, the Renault 30 TX was designed to be the flagship of the Renault range. Featuring a 2664cc PRV V6 engine, developed jointly between Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, the 30 TX had 131 hp and was capable of reaching top speeds of 185 km/h. The vehicle's styling was highly derivative of the popular Renault 16, with distinctive quad headlights.

Renault 20

Eight months later, the more affordable Renault 20 was introduced at the Paris Salon. Still featuring the same hatchback body of the 30, the 20 had two rectangular headlights and was powered by the lower spec 1647cc engine (as seen in the Renault 16 TX). Other differences between the 20 and 30 were that the 20 had drum brakes at the rear wheels, 13 inch wheel rims, and a smaller 60 liter fuel tank. Three trim levels were available for the 20: L, TL and GTL.

Despite the differences between the two cars, their core construction elements were shared - making them both reliable and safe. Both 20 and 30 featured front and rear crumple zones as well as side impact protection. The Renault 20 and 30 were also praised for their refined handling, comfort, and low levels of engine and road noise. In total, over 622,000 units were produced in Sandouville, Le Havre, France.
