Renault 4 Luxe

The Renault 4, commonly referred to as the 4L, is an iconic supermini produced by the French automotive manufacturer between 1961 and 1993. It was Renault's first front-wheel-drive vehicle and is the successor of the 4CV. History In 1956, with the idea of creating an inexpensive and utilitarian vehicle, Pierre Dreyfus, Chairman of Renault, commissioned the development of the Renault 4. The car was made to suit the various needs of people: from providing a family car, to a woman's car, to a farm car, to a city car, and intended for worldwide use. At the Paris Salon Automobile in 1961, Renault presented the 4L in the Luxe version, giving it its popular name. The Renault 4 incorporated some features from its predecessor 4CV, utilizing the same engines and 3-speed manual transmissions. While the 4CV was a full monocoque, the 4L utilized a semi-monocoque construction with a chassis. This allowed Renault to use the 4L platform for other models such as the Renault 6 and the popular Renault 5. It also featured independent suspension and a unique configuration where the wheelbase was shorter on the left than on the right. The debut of the Renault 4 also marked the introduction of what is now known as the hatchback body style. Although it is not the first vehicle to have implemented a top-hinged tailgate, the Citroën Traction Avant and the Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk1 had these features beforehand.
