Renault 4 Van

The Renault 4, also known as the 4L (pronounced "Quatrelle", which means "4 wings" in French), is a supermini produced by the French automaker Renault between 1961 and 1993. It was the first front-wheel drive model from Renault. History In 1956, in response to the 1948 Citroën 2CV, Renault launched the project to design a model intended to become an everyman's car, to replace the rear engined 4CV. After five years, it was revealed at the Paris Salon de l'Automobile in 1961, in the L version (L for Luxe), and has since been known as the 4L. Early versions were developed using engines and transmissions from the Renault 4CV. It had a three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension, torsion bar rear suspension, and a wheelbase that was slightly shorter on the left than on the right. These features, along with its top-hinging single-unit tailgate, are what now contributes to the Renault 4's significance to the history of modern car design.
