Renault 6 1968 posters

Renault 6

The Renault 6 was an innovative subcompact car released by the French auto manufacturer Renault in 1968. Intended to be a more alluring option than the Renault 4, its hatchback frame was considerably more modern and resembled the Renault 16. The car initially earned criticism for its R4-derived engine's lack of power, but an upgrade in 1970 featuring the 1.1 litre Cléon engine made the Renault 6 a much upgraded vehicle. It had newer gearbox components, a cooling system, front disc brakes and increased levels of equipment. For the Spanish market, the Renault 6 was available with a 956 cc engine due to tax regulations of vehicles over 1040 cc. In 1974, the car was modernized to include rectangular headlights, new rear lights, a black plastic grille, and updated bumpers. The front indicator lights were also relocated from between the bumper and the headlights to the bumper itself. Production and sales in France and most of Europe ceased in 1980, however production continued in Spain and Argentina until 1986.
