Renault Clio

The Renault Clio is a supermini that has seen substantial success since it was first introduced in 1990. Produced by the French automaker Renault, the Clio is now in its third generation. It has been a consistent top-seller in Europe and is credited with restoring Renault's reputation following a difficult second half of the 1980s. In Japan, the Clio is sold as the Renault Lutecia, and it is sold as the Nissan Platina in some Latin American markets. Clio (1990-1998) This generation of Clio was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1990 and began sales in France soon after. Engine options at launch included 1.2 L and 1.4 L E-type "Energy" gasoline I4 engines, as well as 1.7 L and 1.9 L diesel engines based on the F-type unit. All gasoline engines received fuel injection systems in place of carburettors for pollution compliance in 1992. A minor trim facelift occurred one year after its launch, which included a new smooth version of the Renault diamond badge and a new front seat design. The Clio Phase 2 model was launched in March 1994, introducing small updates to the exterior and interior. These included a new single colour-coded slat grille, larger and rounder bump strips, and a carbon fiber look for the tailgate strip. The rear light clusters were given a more rounded and modern 'bubble' shape.
