The Renault Clio is a supermini produced by the French automaker Renault since 1990. The Clio has been hugely successful and has been recognised as one of Europe's top-selling cars since its launch. This acclaim is in no small part due to its ability to restore Renault's reputation after their struggles in the late 1980s. In Japan, the Clio's model name became the Renault Lutecia. Meanwhile, a four-door sedan was car developed in certain markets, and was referred to as the Renault Clio Symbol, Renault Clio Sedan and Renault Thalia. Additionally, the car was also sold under the Nissan badge as the Nissan Platina in some Latin American markets. Clio (1990-1998) The Clio's model launch took place at the Paris Motor Show in 1990 and the car was soon available for sale in France. The engine range included 1.2L and 1.4L E-type "Energy" gasoline I4 engines and 1.7L and a 1.9L diesel engines. In line with pollutant emission regulations, the petrol engines were given a fuel injection system in 1992. Renault made some minor changes to the Clio's design after a year, including a new "smooth" version of the Renault diamond badge and a new front seat design. In 1994, the Phase 2 model was unveiled. It included an updated design of the front grille, a new tailgate strip and a more rounded 'bubble' shape to the rear lights.
